Exploring the Impact of Surrounding Communications: A Lecture by Professor Gao Fei at the University of Westminster

On March 21, 2024, Jiangsu Normal University’s Professor Gao Fei, who is also a senior editor at Beijing Television, gave a lecture on the theory of 'Surrounding Communications' at the University of Westminster's School of Media and Communication. The lecture was part of a series intended for master's students and was delivered in English.

During the presentation, Professor Gao discussed the historical development and market dynamics of short video platforms in China, such as Kuaishou and Douyin (internationally known as TikTok). She linked the success of these platforms in both domestic and international markets to the principles of Surrounding Communications, suggesting that adherence to these principles could facilitate smoother development.

Professor Gao also provided an overview of the Surrounding Communications Theory, explaining its emergence, framework, and the context within which it was recognized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as an original contribution to Chinese journalism and communication studies.
